Topspin Tennis was formed in 1996 by Richard Nicolls, originally running coaching programs and tennis lessons from Newcastle University Courts, Lambton Park & Adamstown Rosebuds. In 2010, Topspin Tennis was successful in becoming the new operator of the 24 Court District Park, Broadwater Tennis Centre until 2020. From 2021 to the present day, the team run coaching programs from Lanton Park & Adamstown courts.
As a player, Richard achieved a highest ATP world ranking of 662 in singles and 524 in doubles as well as a singles ranking of 33 in Australia. He played professional tournaments in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America an Australia. Under Tony Roche he was a regular hitting partner for many professional players including former world #1, Ivan Lendl and Leander Paes.
